Man and mode
Martin Smith used to be a reasonably serious investment banker, and is now multitasking in the worlds of business, the arts, science and education, particularly in the environmental field. Over the years he has shown a propensity to take on challenges that he really shouldn’t, including running the marathon, conducting orchestras and doing whatever people do now who used to go foxhunting. He rates the Land’s End to John O’Groats project as one of the best things a 65 year old can do once he has discovered that he can no longer ski as fast as his children. His family don’t really understand why he is doing it but aren’t in the least surprised.
